The next stop is at Amerongen Castle where you can admire a beautiful castle garden. The guides here have so many stories to tell about Danish kings, the library, the harpsichord and the many paintings, among others, that a new theme is chosen for the tours every year.
At the neighbouring Liz Restobar, you can settle down on the terrace. You can also have an excellent lunch here.
Following a beautiful cycle route through wooded areas, you eventually arrive at Fort aan de Buursteeg, one of the largest and most important forts of the Grebbelinie. There is a visitor centre with a museum and a Grebbelounge restaurant.
Further north is Renswoude Castle. Among its 150-year-old trees, you will also find a teahouse, a castle farm and a dovecote. The castle itself hosts weekly guided tours.
Then cycle on to Huis Scherpenzeel. The estate also has a coach house and a gatehouse and all in all, this is also considered one of the most romantic places to get married. As a casual passer-by, you usually only have access to the estate, but during Open Monument Day 2024, they will make an exception and you will be allowed to look inside.
Finally, you cycle back to the starting point where of course castle Zonheuvel has to be viewed. Right next to the castle is Hotel estate Zonheuvel. Not finished cycling yet? You can also spend the night here.
