Fort aan de Buursteeg is one of the largest and most important defences of the Grebbelinie. It was constructed in 1786, and because of the fort's size, several hundred soldiers could bivouac within the ramparts. It provided space for soldiers in the 1794-'95 war against the French, was in the front line during the May days of 1940 and was a German support point when the Allies approached from Ede. In the northern part of the fort is the Grebbelinie visitor centre, where you can discover the story of its extraordinary history. After your visit to the visitor's centre, you can go on lovely cycling or walking tours of the estate. Want to relax on the terrace or in a restaurant after your visit? On the estate, you will find Restaurant Grebbelounge, where you can get a bite to eat and a drink.

How water became a friend
Around the Grebbelinie, clever use was made of the water in Gelderse Valley as early as the sixteenth century. A system of dams, sluices and forts was built to stop enemy armies. Read more about the water in the Grebbelinie on UtrechtAltijd.
