What is the Limes?
The Limes was the northern border of the Roman Empire two thousand years ago and ran along the Rhine, right across the Netherlands and through Utrecht and its surroundings. Here, soldiers guarded the border and settlements arose. Since 2021, the Limes has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
