What are the Hollandse Waterlinies?



The Hollandse Waterlinies World Heritage Site consists of two water lines: the Nieuwe Hollandse Waterlinie and the Stelling van Amsterdam (1815-1945). Since July 2021, they have formed one UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Dutch Waterlines protected the west of our country from the enemy by flooding wide strips of land to knee height. From Edam to the Biesbosch (200 km long), it is an open and strategic landscape full of ingenious waterworks and no fewer than 96 robust forts.
