Doortraproute Nieuwegein - Schalkwijk
Delightfully pedal through the surroundings of Schalkwijk and Nieuwegein. This short cycle tour takes you across the Eiland van Schalkwijk and past many elements of the Nieuwe Hollandse Waterlinie. You'll cycle past a succession of forts and sluices, such as Fort Honswijk, Fort WKU and the Plofsluis lock.

Doortraproutes are part of the Doortrappen programme. Doortraproutes are cycle routes of about 25 kilometres. They are beautiful and green, on reasonably wide paths with few obstacles and relatively safe crossings.

Description
The route follows the white-and-green junction signs of the cycle route network. The route starts and ends at Touristisch Overstappunt (TOP) Linielanding. Another convenient starting point is TOP Eiland van Schalkwijk, but the route can basically be started at any junction.
