Fort Maarsseveen

Fort Maarsseveen is a cultural and artistic breeding and meeting place. Built in 1880-1881, the fort is part of the New Dutch Waterline. Since 2021, the line has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site. As small as this fort is compared to other forts, it has a big story to tell. The powder galleries, the vanished depot, the telegraph office... The history of this part of the world heritage goes back to 1881. And you can see it, and experience it.

Art and culture
Fort Maarsseveen has set its sights on art and culture. And it looks beautiful. There are studios and an exhibition space. Ceramic artists have their own workspace and sculptors also display their skills from their permanent location. Every year we host an 'artist in residence', a young graduate from the HKU. And every month there is an exhibition by a well-known or less well-known local or regional artist.

Food and drink
The fort is open all days of the week from 10:30 to 17:30. The terrace in front of the fort is a well-kept secret. In the first rays of the sun, out of the wind, you can sit there comfortably. Fort Maarssenveen is therefore popular as a stop during a cycling or hiking tour, to catch your breath and relax over a cup of coffee, a drink or a (simple) lunch. On weekdays, Fort keepers keep the fort open who provide coffee, drinks from the fridge and soup or sandwiches for lunch. Every weekend, Pop up Paella's extensive kitchen is open for lunch and tapas. But by reservation, groups can visit any day and time, including for meetings and parties.

Asking questions is welcomed! Every weekend, Pop up Paella's extensive kitchen is open for lunch and tapas. But by reservation, groups can visit any day and time, including for meetings and parties.

In addition, we do our best to plan a well-filled agenda. Full of original art and cultural activities. For instance, we have the annual VORT!Festival in September, regular Thursday evening stand-up comedy, storytelling dinner or listening concerts. Not to mention the famous FORT ZON DAYS on every last Sunday of the month!
