Around the Line
This walking route takes you across the Eiland van Schalkwijk and explores part of the Hollandse Waterlinies. It is a beautiful walk past forts of the New Dutch Waterline and through a landscape that goes back to the 13th and 14th centuries. Among other things, you walk on a plank path through the drowned forest where various water birds, such as the great egret, can be found regularly.
This route consists of a shorter version of 10 km and a longer variant of 16 km. The longer variant of this route passes no less than 4 forts of the UNESCO World Heritage Hollandse Waterlinies and is therefore also highly recommended.
A great walking tour to get a breath of fresh air in the beautiful Kromme Rijn region. And to experience the cultural heritage of the Dutch Waterways!
