Fancy leaving the hustle and bustle of the city behind for a while and discovering a unique piece of Dutch history? Then cycle this route and discover the Nieuwe Hollandse Waterlinie (part of the UNESCO World Heritage Hollandse Waterlinies). Via this cycle route, you will discover the versatility of the water line and discover a multitude of water line highlights within a short distance.
One thing you definitely don't want to miss is Fort Vechten, with its interactive Waterline Museum. You will also pass the Plofsluis lock and cycle across the Eiland van Schalkwijk. Nowhere is the waterline landscape as well preserved as here with its many forts, canals and Gedekte Gemeenschapsweg. The impressive Fort Honswijk is well worth a visit. If you want to take a break, choose a terrace in the Old Village of Fietsstad Houten or plop down at the Laagravense Plassen.
