Grebbe Line bike trail
The Grebbe Line comprises defence works dating from the 18th century, designed to resist an enemy attack on the Netherlands. This route really portrays the history of this defence line, like at the starting point, Fort aan de Buursteeg. Water was also an important aspect of the Grebbe Line, so the cycling route will take you along many waterways, such as the Grift, a canal, and a stream, the Lunterse Beek. You will be following the beautiful tow path along the Lunterse Beek, the Jaagpad, for quite a while, then turning right and taking a detour into Scherpenzeel town centre. It's a great place for a coffee break!

Leaving Scherpenzeel, you will be returning to the province of Utrecht, headed for Fort Daatselaar, where the edge of the old fort is still clearly visible. Your route will continue heading straight for Renswoude Castle, hidden between the trees. Leaving the castle behind, a brief bit along wooded lanes will bring you back to your starting point.
