Part of the De Schammer/Bloeidaal nature reserve is intended for recreation. There are walking, cycling and horse riding trails. There is also a bird watching site with an information panel. This makes the birds in De Schammer easier to recognize. Another part of De Schammer is used as a storage facility for large quantities of rainwater. The recreational part of the area is managed by the municipality of Leusden, the nature part by the Utrechts Landschap.
