The walking route starts at TOP Ponthoeve, near Vianen's pancake farm of the same name. You first cross over by ferry to Vreeswijk. A former village from the 9th century, later an outport of the city of Utrecht that was fortified with fortifications. Today, Vreeswijk is part of the municipality of Nieuwegein. However, its historical character has been preserved. After a walk around Vreeswijk, you can take the foot/cycle ferry back to Vianen to continue your stroll through the historic city centre.
