The Roman Limes path is a beautiful walking route in the footsteps of the Romans. It follows the entire Roman Limes in the Netherlands, which has had UNESCO World Heritage status since summer 2021. This is stage 10 of the total 275 km Long Distance Walk (LAW). You walk from Werkhoven, along the Old Kromme Rijn, which was the border of the Roman Empire. The route goes via Cothen and Wijk bij Duurstede to Rijswijk.

The Roman Limes path is a beautiful walking route in the footsteps of the Romans. It follows the entire Roman Limes in the Netherlands, which has had UNESCO World Heritage status since summer 2021. Roman Limes

Some 2,000 years ago, a 200-kilometre-long border ran through the Netherlands with several Roman army camps, forts and watchtowers attached to it. The Latin word for border is 'Limes' and that Roman Limes can now be walked with the Long Distance Footpath: Roman Limespad. It runs from Katwijk - where the Rhine flowed into the sea at the time - along Oude Rijn, Kromme Rijn and Nederrijn to behind Nijmegen where the path crosses the border, towards Xanten.
