Mannenzaal (‘the men’s room’)

De Mannenzaal (‘the men’s room’) and chapel of the former Saint Peters- and Blokland Guest House were put into operation in the 14th century.

This is the only medieval infirmary of its kind in the Netherlands which has been kept in its original state, as it was in 1900. Initially, this building was only meant for invalids. Later, it became a retirement home with separate men’s and women’s quarters.

You can visit the Mannenzaal upon appointment with a guide from the Amersfoort Guild. The minimum number of people for which you must pay is 5.

In July and August, there is Levende Historie (‘Living history’) in the Mannenzaal. Role players enable visitors to submerge themselves in the daily lives – under a strict regime – of the retirement home in 1907.
