Buitenplaats Doornburgh

Enjoying a cup of coffee with homemade pastel de nata in the courtyard garden, a guided tour of the former monastery or a lovely walk through the historic park by the river Vecht: it is all possible at the former Doornburgh monastery near Utrecht.

Doornburgh is a creative buitenplaats for art and science. The main house in the country estate has existed since the 17th century. The unusual, modern monastery building was added in the 1960s to the design of Bossche School architect Jan de Jong.

Kloosterkeuken
The lunch menu is inspired by Doornburgh's nature and life in a monastery. Local products as well as products from the monastery's own vegetable garden, located between the Vecht and the monastery, take centre stage. Think fresh salads with herbs from the land, fresh vegetable soup and delicious sourdough sandwiches.

The covered terrace in the courtyard garden is a lovely spot in the (late) summer. If the garden is not in bloom, the distinct architecture provides a proportionate wow effect. And extra special: in the refectory, you can sit at the original tables, which architect Jan de Jong designed especially for the monastic order that stayed until 2
