Fortenroute de Ronde Venen - A green water line

Cycle through the special landscape of the waterline Stelling van Amsterdam (part of the UNESCO World Heritage Hollandse Waterlinies) in the Ronde Venen. The cycle route takes you past six forts, each with its own story. You'll cycle through beautiful polders with wide views, over narrow dikes and past the most beautiful forts.

Fort near Nigtevecht
In the past, this fort was important in defending the canal, the Old Vecht, sluices and waterworks. Now the fort is mainly a resting place to enjoy the silence and nature.

Fort Abcoude
The oldest fort of the Defence Line used to defend the Amsterdam-Utrecht railway line the river Angstel and the Straatweg. Guided tours are available by appointment.

Fort in the Botshol
This fort does not have a concrete building, but a nature reserve which used to be well flooded.
