On the night of 26 to 27 November 1672, the French marched from Vianen over the Lekdijk towards Ameide. With this cycle tour, you will travel that same route. The French leave behind a trail of destruction. The entrenchment and the windmills near Ameide are set on fire and the centre of Ameide is not spared either. It was thanks to the persuasiveness of the vicar in Ameide that the church and town hall were spared. The army of the Northern Netherlands retreats from Sluis towards Tienhoven. From Ameide, you cycle through the vast polders back to Vianen. There is much to discover along the way!
