TOP Salmsteke, Lopik

The recreational area Salmsteke takes its name from the time when salmon were caught in abundance here. It is near the town of Jaarsveld; a 14th-century settlement near the Veldenstein castle, destroyed in 1672, whose castle moats are still visible. In summer months, a foot/cycle ferry departs from here to the village of Ameide on the other side of the Lek. Salmsteke is an excellent starting point to explore the area on foot or by bike. TOP Salmsteke falls under Recreatie Midden-Nederland. This organisation manages, maintains and creates attractive areas for recreation and day tourism in the province of Utrecht.
