Central Museum
Centraal Museum has existed since 1838, making it the oldest urban museum in the Netherlands. The museum manages a diverse collection of art, urban history, fashion and applied art, most of which is owned by the municipality of Utrecht. From Rietveld to the Utrecht Caravaggists, from Dick Bruna to Moesman and from Viktor & Rolf to the centuries-old Utrecht ship, the museum is housed in a former medieval monastery and consists of a collection of buildings and a beautiful large courtyard garden. It is a lovely place to wander through the many corridors and staircases, and where you can be surprised by the various exhibitions.

Collection
The Centraal Museum has the largest collection of Rietveld objects in the world, and you can see work by the world-famous Dick Bruna. The collection of Old Masters, with works by Jan van Scorel, Abraham Bloemaert and Hendrick ten Brugghen, among others, is also well worth seeing. Besides the work of all these Utrecht icons, the Centraal Museum offers an overview of 2,000 years of turbulent history, and also focuses on the 'present' with current fashion, design and visual arts.
Atelier Dick Bruna
A special part of Centraal Museum is the Atelier of Dick Bruna, the country's most famous illustrator and graphic designer. For thirty years, Dick Bruna could be found every day in his studio in an attic in the centre of Utrecht. This was not only where drawings and stories originated from Bruna's hand, it was also a place where he surrounded himself with personal memories: photos of special encounters, presents from fans and letters from fellow artists.

Central Café
Café Centraal lets you get acquainted with the collection by taking a seat on the special chairs inspired by the designs of Gerrit Rietveld and others. Enjoy a good cup of coffee, a tasty lunch or a cosy drink. Don't forget to visit the museum shop, where you will find special little gifts, products by Utrecht designers, art and fashion books and a wide range of Miffy items. Both the café and the shop can be visited without a museum ticket.
