De Schammer/ Bloeidaal is a nature reserve north of Leusden and east of Amersfoort along the A28 motorway. The area is named after the historical farmstead 't Scham that stood in the area.
Bloeidaal was established in 2007 and has now developed into a nature reserve with beautiful wet meadows, reed beds and flowery hay meadows. It is a haven for birds such as little ringed plover, whitethroat, barn swallow, black-tailed godwit, curlew, redshank and teal. In the winter of 2010-2011, the agricultural area around farm 't Scham was transformed into nature reserve De Schammer. De Schammer is developing in a special way. For birds, the area has become a true paradise. In spring, there are plenty of meadow birds such as the lapwing, redshank and shore plover. The kestrel is almost permanently present in the area and the spoonbill has also been spotted several times.
Part of nature reserve De Schammer/ Bloeidaal is designated for recreation. Walking and cycling paths run here, and there are also picnic meadows. There is also a bird-watching wall with an information board making it easy to recognise the birds in De Schammer. Another part of De Schammer is used to store large amounts of rainwater. The recreational part of the area is managed by the municipality of Leusden, the nature part by Utrechts Landschap.
