At the picturesque old harbour of Spakenburg you will find Museum Spakenburg-the place where life around the former Zuiderzee comes to life. From botters to block makers
Around 1900, more than two hundred botters sailed from Spakenburg to fish on the Zuiderzee. This activity led to a flourishing craft life: there were shipyards, smokehouses, tanneries and block makers. Museum Spakenburg brings these crafts to life with permanent exhibitions and interactive elements for young and old.

Experience crafts during events
Want to really experience the craft? Visit the museum during the Spakenburg Days (the last two Wednesdays of July and first two of August) or on the annual Fisherman's Day (first Saturday of September). Then you will see demonstrations of tanning, knitting and net mending - crafts passed down from parent to child for generations.
