A packed harbour with 'sjuten' was something you only saw on Sundays 100 years ago. But on Saturday 6 September, between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m., Stylish Spakenburg will be transformed into the life of the past.
Not that happiness was commonplace back then. History shaped Spakenburg into who we are today; Sober and straightforward. Horses pulled ships up the slipway. And fishing nets were still hauled in by hand. The past is not a bed of roses; it's hard work with trial and error.
LOOKING INSIDE
During Visserijdag, the museum harbour looks inviting. Literally and figuratively because you can take a look on board rigged fishing boats. Families with children in traditional costume fry crispy plaice on the fishing boats. We eat them without cutlery, with our hands. That is how it should be.

JUMPING ROPE ON THE STREET
See clogs on the pavement? Then join in to the beat of metres of rope that sets the beat. There is singing and jumping. Just on goat's wool socks.
WASHING AND IRONING
Large families have a lot of washing and ironing to do. Logical. But this chore used to have to be done by hand and a starched kraplap around your neck. Spakenburg women got out of bed well before dawn to start housework. Street scrubbing, socks knitting and a pile of squeaky coats. Come watch them wash and iron.
AUCTIONS IN THE FISH AUCTION
Slide into the wooden benches and keep your eyes on the clock. Who will bid the most for a delicious mackerel? Auctioneers Willem and Willem grew up around the corner from the auction and take you back to their childhood with their stories. When the siren sounds then the game begins. Is your neighbour bluffing or will you walk away with the catch?
ANGLING WITH KIDS
Take your kids along for the fishing competition. You can cast a rod with a hook from different boats. Who knows, with some patience and luck, you might win a nice prize.
SPAKENBURG FAMILY FESTIVAL
The Visserijdag is a Spakenburg family festival of the Brown Fleet, a living open-air museum and a fun event all in one. And everyone gets to enjoy
