Historic town hall | IJsselstein

The Historical Town Hall was commissioned by William of Orange, Baron of IJsselstein, who also made the construction financially possible. Together with the square De Plaats in front of it, the Historical Town Hall, built in Dutch-Maniëristic style, forms the centre of medieval IJsselstein.

Built around 1560, the monument - although never afflicted by disasters - has had to endure the consequences of ever-changing architectural views. Over the centuries, for instance, two dormers with stepped gables have disappeared, as well as the original landing, which, like the rest of the façade, was built of brick with speccoys. At the end of the 19th century, the façade was additionally plastered grey. Between 1974 and 1977, the Historic Town Hall was restored, partly returning it to its original state. It now mainly fulfils representative functions, such as official receptions and wedding ceremonies. The basement of the town hall houses restaurant 'Bistro Mairie'.

Opening Historic Town Hall
The old town hall is only open to the public on Open Monumentendag and during special events. On request, the town hall can be visited during a guided city walk by UIT in IJsselstein l Tourist. Getting married: the Civic Hall of the Historical Town Hall is a beautiful wedding location.

Restaurant Bistro Mairie
Bistro Mairie is located in the basement of IJsselstein's centuries-old town hall. Here you can enjoy dinner or a nice lunch. Whether you like meat, fish, vegetarian or vegan: the lunch and dinner menu features a variety of fine dishes.
