How did you feel this morning when you woke up? Such a mood, first thing in the morning, often takes you into the day. This is true for us, but it was equally true for people living in the past. Emotions connect us through the ages. When you look at a shard from the Iron Age with that thought in the back of your mind, or shame stones from the Middle Ages, they come alive for you in a new way. Suddenly you can imagine the people behind such an object. Their joy, their shame, their desires. Because people back then were not so different from people today.

The highlights from the collection of Museum IJsselstein are therefore not shown chronologically, but according to 'emotion areas'. This creates an interesting dialogue of today with the past. And who knows, we might even catch a glimpse of the future in the meantime.

The collection presentation consists of different 'emotion areas'. Within these, several objects can be seen per emotion or state of mind: archaeological finds, craft tools, contemporary art. On this webpage, we highlight an object for each area.
