Viewpoint with Augmented Reality App

The Waterstaat Augmented Reality App complements the artwork Waterstaat, located at the vantage point of Lunet aan de Snel. Artwork and App introduce you to six different aspects of water.Viewpoint Lunet aan de SnelA unique viewpoint has been created at the Lunet aan de Snel Remise. There is a view of various parts of the New Dutch Waterline such as Fort Honswijk, the inundation canal and Polder Blokhoven, as well as the Lekdijk and the floodplains. This elevation on the defences is located on a public footpath that runs across the fort grounds. The path on the Lunet is accessible via a gate to the left of the large entrance gate.Work of art WATERSTAAT
WATERSTAAT is a work by Rotterdam artist Geert Mul. The artwork poetically intensifies the experience of the fort and the landscape. It lets the visitor read the surrounding area from the perspective of water. Whether it is the Defence Line of Honswijk, the Lekdijk, agriculture in polder Blokhoven or nature, water is present in everything. By using mirrors, the artwork blends into its surroundings, literally taking on the shape of the landscape and sky. As you approach the artwork, maps appear on the hexagonal column, each linked to a different story around water. The themes depicted are: water as a military tool, water as technology, water as politics, water as infrastructure, water as culture and water as ecology.

The Remise not only offers panoramic views of the Eiland van Schalkwijk, but is also a great place to inform visitors about the various stories embedded in the open landscape. In cooperation with various partners, a work of art has been realised at the Remise, bringing the waterline and the role of water in the area to life in a visual manner. In connection with the artwork WATERSTAAT, digital artist Sander Veenhof developed an augmented reality app of the same name. The app artfully visualises the same six water themes. If you open the app at the vantage point of Lunet aan de Snel and point your mobile phone at the surroundings, all kinds of digital elements in the landscape will pass by, telling you something about the topics mentioned.
