Connected City
The summer exhibition Connected City reflects on the constantly changing cityscape. How does this affect its inhabitants? This exhibition explores (the relationship between) architecture, project development, identity and the feeling of home, transience and the fact that a place is never 'finished'. About the exhibition
Connected City is the second temporary exhibition on show at Museum IJsselstein this year. It is an ode to the city and its inhabitants, both IJsselstein and every other city. The exhibition focuses on the inevitable transformations a city undergoes and what these changes mean for the public spaces that connect us. Gentrification - where old neighbourhoods are refurbished, causing house and rent prices to rise and the original residents can no longer afford to live there - is a much-discussed topic in this context. But major renovations, new housing estates, infrastructural changes: a city is always changing and 'the cityscape' is never finished. This raises the question: how do people relate to the changing urban landscape? Do urban planning and identity go hand in hand? Or, expressed differently: does this city belong to me? What do certain changes mean to me? How do I shape my own environment?
This exhibition explores the link between city and urbanite, neighbourhood and local resident, as well as the balance between transformation and feeling at home. The exhibition visitor will encounter a wide variety of art forms, such as photography, video and installations.
Connected City opens on Saturday 15 June. Click here for more information about the opening!
