Every last Sunday of the month, you can visit the fascinating Angel Room at Amerongen Castle. Here, our textile volunteers work with endless patience to preserve beautiful historical fabrics. They are very happy to tell you more about it themselves. About the importance of textiles for the House, about what conservation entails and which specific project they are currently working on.

Noble sustainability

The Angels' work is the epitome of sustainability. Taking care with what you have and trying to preserve the castle as it was. Curtains from the 19th century are being conserved during this project, with the importance for textiles being paramount. The influence of light and air on fabrics are shown, but also the impermanence of organic products. Like trees and plants, textiles also change due to external influences.

'He who keeps what, has what.' Nothing could be further from the truth for Amerongen Castle's collection. Whereas in many castle interiors the upholstery has disappeared or been replaced by replicas, this castle's textile collection is a unique collection of masterpieces that tell different stories. The collection is important cultural-historical heritage with great museum and social value.

Every last Sunday of the month, the Angel Room is open from 12.00 - 15.00.
