Making cigars - Stadsmuseum Veenendaal

Veenendaal has a centuries-old tobacco tradition. The staff will be happy to show you the craft of cigar making in a demonstration or a workshop.

Several tobacco plantations with tobacco barns emerged in the Betuwe in the 17th century. This tobacco culture gave rise to small companies that continued to process tobacco. In 1887, for example, 19-year-old Jochem van Schuppen started a tobacco-crushing factory. The beginning of the Ritmeester. In 1919, Henk and Joop van Schuppen took over Jochem's tobacco refinery. The beginning of the Panther. Other well-known Veenendaal cigar factories were De Edelman, Cavansa, Monte Christo and Beco. Furthermore, there were 10 more people here who got involved in cigar production (on a small scale) at the beginning of the last century.

Stadsmuseum Veenendaal is happy to organise a cigar-making workshop. The workshop is in combination with an explanation of the cigar history in the museum. The total duration of the activity is about 1.5 hours. The fee for this is €10.00 p.p. excluding the normal entrance fee to the museum (€9.00). Your museum card is valid.

Please book at least 2 weeks in advance. Please note that there is a minimum participation of 4 people per workshop.
