Utrecht is full of beautiful murals. You will find the most beautiful works during your walk or bike ride in the city centre and surrounding neighbourhoods. Grab your bike (you can also do the route on foot, of course) and head to the starting point on Kalymnosdreef. The route starts in a neighbourhood just outside the centre of Utrecht, at the mural on Kalymnosdreef. After a few nice photos, get back on your bike and head towards the next mural on the route. On Dorbeendreef, you will come across the impressive mural The Flute Player. With this huge work of art still fresh in your memory, you cycle on through Overvecht, towards the Taagdreef. Here you will find the mural Toeslag af.... by Jan Is De Man. The work tells the story of young people affected by the surcharge affair and stands out for its colourful flowers and butterfly with damaged details.
You leave Overvecht behind and cycle towards the Vogelenbuurt. Before going to see the Grietstraat painting, Karibu around the corner is a nice tip for a cup of coffee or, of course, something else. At Hooghiemstraplein, you can take a break and then marvel at the beautiful Grietstraat painting around the corner.
Continue cycling towards Pijlsweerd and stop for a moment at the mural on Monicahof. A little further on, you can also see the 'Otter with the Dom Tower', so you cycle past that too. With the otter at your back, you cycle on towards Amsterdamsestraatweg. At the beginning of the long street, a piece of street art has been created to welcome people.
You cycle further down the street and look for 'The Bookcase'. A little further on, on the right, you turn into the street Mimosastraat. There you immediately spot the Bookcase. Fun fact about this mural is that they asked local residents for their favourite book. This may now be in the 3D bookcase on the wall. You get back on your bike and cycle back where you came from. If you fancy a refreshing drink or lunch, Roost on the Singel is a nice tip. On the other side of the water, you can have a great time here. A little further on Catharijnekade is BUNK, another real Utrecht tip for a good break.
From here (or on in one go), cycle along 1st Daalsedijk to see the next painting. Then continue your route. You'll arrive at Westplein, where the 'Sleeping March' can be seen. Cool!
You check the map and you have two more to go. You cycle on to Croeselaan where you come across the next artwork on the street. Last on the list, you cycle on a little further to Spaaklaan. Here you can find the 'Lute Player' in Kanaleneiland-Noord. To conclude your street art route, you can sit down on the terrace near the 'Luitspeler' at Op Roose on Rooseveltlaan.
