Krimpener and Lopikerwaard
This cycle route takes you into the Green Heart and guarantees beautiful vistas, small rivers and historic towns like Haastrecht, Oudewater and Lopik. You will cycle through open meadows, past monumental farms and through idyllic towns and villages.
The route passes through the Krimpener- and Lopikerwaard, an ancient peat meadow area partly below NAP. In Krimpenerwaard, you will cycle past the Kleine Molen, a former polder mill dating from 1620, among other things. Already from the polder, you can see the monumental Kempen church tower of Stolwijk. In 1946, the leaning tower was slightly straightened: from about 1.35 metres to 'only' 85 centimetres from the vertical.

The route passes through the Krimpener- and Lopikerwaard, an ancient peat meadow area partly below NAP. In Krimpenerwaard, you will cycle past the Kleine Molen, a former polder mill dating from 1620, among other places. The route also takes you along the Hollandse IJssel for a bit. Along this little river lies picturesque Haastrecht. Besides the many fine old monuments, you will see Poldermuseum Gemaal De Hooge Boezem (at Hoogstraat 31) here. This pumping station dates from the nineteenth century and helps keep the polder habitable. In the museum you will learn all about the ingenious water management in this area where most houses are lower than the rivers.
In the Lopikerwaard, you cycle through Oudewater, among other places. This includes the Waag from 1482, which houses an exhibition on the persecution of witches. In and around Oudewater, many outdoor recordings were made for the TV series Swiebertje at the time: there is a bust of this tramp.
