Cattenbroekerplasroute

Recreational lake Cattenbroek was created by sand extraction for the Snel and Polanen district, and later for the Waterrijk and Leidse Rijn districts. This was the westernmost industrial sand extraction in the Netherlands that started in 1994. It got its name from the adjacent Cattenbroekerdijk, which connects Woerden with Montfoort on the west side.
The lake consists of two parts, with the north-eastern part being the Breeveld nature lake for waterbirds, and the large lake for recreation. These two ponds are separated by a wooded bank, the Potterskade. Recreational lake Cattenbroek also has swimming beach.
Please note: Dogs are not allowed on part of the walking route. Also not on a leash.
