Theater de Speeldoos Baarn is Baarn’s theatre and cultural heart; centrally located in the Netherlands. The building comprises a large theatre auditorium with over 340 seats, a small theatre auditorium for performances and hire with a capacity of up to 100 seats, and a number of smaller rooms available for corporate hire. Despite the theatre’s small scale, it hosts a considerable number of professional performances; the organisation comprises a small number of staff, and volunteers are keen to play their part. Theater de Speeldoos sets itself apart through its small scale and the additional experiences it offers, such as live music alongside the performances, which encourage regular visitors to return. New audiences are also finding their way to the theatre.

The theatre is known for its warm 'red plush' theatre atmosphere and its atmospheric theatre café. Providing a total night out in a warm, welcoming environment is paramount at Theatre de Speeldoos.
A brief overview
In addition to the varied theatre programme, popular cinema films are screened weekly from September to April. Theater de Speeldoos also screens top operas from The Metropolitan Opera in New York, recorded on the big screen. Thanks to the perfect picture and sound quality, it feels as though you’re actually there in New York. The ‘red velvet’ auditorium and the ambience of the theatre café perfectly complement the quality of The Metropolitan Opera. With a special opera package, it makes for a truly special night out for the audience!
Theater de Speeldoos also organises various events, such as the ‘Theater4daagse’ for children aged between 8 and 14. For music lovers, there are the musical Sunday Sessions and Open Podia in the cosy theatre café on Sunday afternoons. Local cultural associations also rehearse in the theatre, and De Speeldoos provides a stage for all kinds of cultural and social initiatives. Theater de Speeldoos is also an atmospheric and inspiring venue for the business sector, hosting conferences, meetings and other gatherings. Good to know: there is free parking in the car park behind the theatre.
