TOP Von Gimborn Arboretum

Doorn is located on the south side of the Utrechtse Heuvelrug, on the border with the Kromme Rijnstreek. The Utrechtse Heuvelrug was formed over 150,000 years ago, during the penultimate ice age. It extends from the Randmeren near Huizen to the Grebbeberg near Rhenen and is clearly recognisable in the landscape. Its highest point is Amerongse Berg at 69.2m above sea level.

From 1820 onwards, many country estates and country houses were built along the road from Utrecht to Arnhem, at the foot of the Heuvelrug. The gardens and parks around the country houses were largely laid out in the style of English Landscape Parks.

The Nationaal Bomenmuseum Gimborn is a good starting point for a visit to all the beauty that the Utrechtse Heuvelrug and the Kromme Rijnstreek have to offer. A wonderful area for walking, cycling and especially for enjoying!

Walking routes from this TOP:

• Walks Green Entrance Kaapse Bossen
  The Green Entrance Kaapse Bossen is located on Leersumsestraatweg, just east of Doorn (see map). You will find an overview map with four marked walking routes.
• Klompenpaden
  You will find two wooden shoe paths around the Von Gimborn Arboretum. The Aderwinkelpad can be reached via the approach route from this TOP. The Gerrit Achterbergpad starts at the Wapen van Sandenburg (node 8, see map).

• Other walking routes
  The brochures of the unmarked Von Gimbornpad and Bomenroute walking routes are available at the tree museum. You will also find four walking routes in the Kromme Rijn area under the name Nederlangbroekse Kastelenpad. The starting point is located at village hall De Toekomst at Prinsenplein 3 in Langbroek (see map).

• Cycle route Kromme Rijn and Langbroekerwetering
  You cycle through the river landscape of 'the outside of Utrecht'. Here you will enjoy country estates, untouched nature, floodplains and fruit orchards. Cycling nodes: TOP - approach - 59 76 60 57 56 13 9 8 5 direction 59 - exit TOP.
• National Park cycling route
  The National Park cycle route (southern section) leads through vast forests, along the ribbon of country houses of the Stichtse Lustwarande and through the Kromme Rijn area. Cycling nodes: TOP - approach - 59 9 8 10 11 18 17 65 69 68 12 71 70 7 6 3 16 4 5 direction 59 - exit TOP.

You can also create your own cycle route along the existing cycle junctions or pick up a route map at the Von Gimborn Arboretum.
