Southwest of Naarden-Vesting is twin fort Batterijen on the Karnemelksloot. The forts are not open to the public. One of the two battery forts is in use by a scouting group, the other lies abandoned.
This defensive work from 1787 on either side of the Karnemelksloot consists of two small islands surrounded by moats. Between 1873 and 1875, they were enlarged and both received a guardhouse. This twin fort had to defend the intermediate dam sluice. Dam sluices had a purely military significance. Here, they had to prevent the emptying of flooded areas.
