History of the Ter Leede windmill
Windmill Ter Leede is a so-called seesaw mill. This is the oldest type of polder mill in the Netherlands. Typical of these mills is that the entire upper house can be turned. In the past, they were almost always used as polder mills, i.e. to keep the polder dry. Originally, this mill also had this task, but when the upper axle of the rear mill broke in 1940, the mill fell into disrepair.
In 1984, the municipality of Leerdam sold the mill to Molenstichting SIMAV for the symbolic sum of 1 guilder. Since June 2017, the mill has been back in operation.
