At the National Glass Museum's Glassworks, you can see up close how glassblowers turn hot liquid glass into a wide variety of art and design objects.
This former timber shed is the only remaining building of the once extensive complex of timber trade and lumber factory Varsseveld. Dating from the late 18th century, this company once covered the entire outer dike area between the Horndijk and the Linge and was the second largest employer in Leerdam, next to the Glass Factory. The company closed in 1986 and all buildings except this shed were demolished. The wooden shed now houses the National Glass Museum's Glassworks. The glassworks is open to the public six days a week. Fire, agility, sheer muscle power and years of experience are needed to shape the hot, viscous substance. Take a seat on the stand and watch the glassblower transform the hot, liquid glass into beautiful glass art and design objects! The Glassworks has an extensive catering facility with outdoor terrace.
