Fort Overeindseweg

The Batteries on Overeindseweg are a defensive structure. They were part of the New Dutch Waterline.
The defences were erected in the early 1870s, a period marked by the outbreak of the Franco-German war. In the Netherlands, this led to the declaration of a moblisation and also the construction of some advance forts around the city of Utrecht to reinforce weak spots. Afterwards, the work on Overeindseweg was extended. Around 1982, part of it disappeared due to a modification of the Amsterdam-Rijnkanaal near the plow lock.
National monumental features of the Batteries on Overeindseweg include an earthwork, machine gun casemate, artillery shed and a bulkhead barrage that are protected.
