Glassworks
Leerdam has been the glass city of the Netherlands since 1765 - with the foundation of the first glass factory in this historic town on the river Linge. In addition to the production of bottles and tableware, the twentieth century saw the emergence of a clear design of decorative objects and arts and crafts that took the factory to great heights. The National Glass Museum is the national treasure trove of objects created by leading designers and made by Leerdam's master glassblowers.
A former timber shed on Zuidwal in the centre of Leerdam - as part of the National Glass Museum - houses a glassworks. Glass blowers - some trained at the factory and some brought in from outside - keep the craft alive here and make a wide variety of objects for direct sale or commissioned by artists and designers.

Six days a week, from a large stand, visitors can experience how glassblowers craft beautiful glass art objects from hot liquid glass!
