TOP Station Breukelen
The Vechtstreek takes its name from the rustically meandering river Vecht with 17th- and 18th-century country estates on both banks. At the heart of the region is the historic village of Breukelen, with an abundance of culture, history, scenic beauty and recreational opportunities nearby. Breukelen is an excellent base for the area's special attractions.
The Kortrijk Mill
Located at the P&R is a polder mill dating from 1696. The mill is named after the Flemish city of Kortrijk of the same name. So the name comes from Flanders where the settlers came from who were recruited in the 12th century to mine the peat west of Breukelen.

Nijenrode Castle/University
Located outside the village centre, at Straatweg 25, 3621 BG in Breukelen. This little castle with moat and drawbridge looks beautiful all year round! Next to the castle is a little park with deer, among other things. The castle belongs to Nijenrode University, whose campus is located behind the castle on the same grounds. Visiting this castle is not allowed, nor is entering the park. You can always ask the gatekeeper though; worth a try!
The village centre of Breukelen
Breukelen's village centre is worth exploring. To do so, cross the canal, continue straight ahead and turn left at the roundabout into Straatweg. You will then automatically come across the centre on your right. Stroll through the narrow streets, visit the park of buitenplaats Boom & Bosch and grab a cosy terrace. The steel drawbridge over the river Vecht is also a beautiful sight.
Gunterstein
Along the river Vecht, east of the historic core of Breukelen, lies the lovely country estate of Gunterstein. The current Gunterstein was built in 1681 by Magdalena Poulle and dates back to an early 16th-century knight's manor. The Gunterstein house is inhabited, but the park forest is open to the public. Visitors must use the second entrance on Gunterstein avenue. The courtyard garden is not open to the public.
