Water tower Woerden

The water tower in Woerden was built in 1905 and was in use until 1979. Here, the tower's main function was to ensure constant pressure in the pipes of the water supply system.

The reason for building the tower was the construction of a drinking water pipeline. Woerden residents took the initiative to request permission for the construction. However, it was rejected by the municipality after which, after some investigation, the municipality itself started the construction. After more than 3 years including research and the actual construction, the water tower finally stood. The tower grew to a height of 28 metres, with the height determining the crowding that was needed for the water to rush over a certain distance. The greater the distance, the higher the tower had to be. With 461 households connected to the network, the tower had to be how enough.
