One of the eye-catchers of the Máxima Park is the 'Viking Rhine', a watercourse in the park designed by bureau West8.  Those who do not know better may perceive the water in the middle of the Binnenhof as a pond, but it is not. It is a re-excavated part of an original course of the Old Rhine, which snaked through the area here until about a thousand years ago.

During the construction of the Máxima Park, part of the former Rhine was made visible again through excavation. This was given the name Viking Rhine. It has a width of about 70 metres, which is believed to be about how wide the Rhine was in Norman times.

The Vikingrijn meanders through Máxima Park and you can canoe, supp and sail in a swan. More information on rentals can be obtained from Anafora.
