This water pump on the Place in IJsselstein, the square near the Historical Town Hall, was originally used to pump drinking water. The pump did have other functions; the town crier proclaimed his messages there and functioned as a drinking trough during the cattle market. The square with the pump was also an important meeting place.
After most residents were connected to the water supply and the cattle market was also discontinued, the pump was removed. In 1977, a pump was nevertheless reinstalled in front of the old city hall to dress up the square in style.
Nowadays, you can enjoy a snack or drink on the terrace of Brasserie 1560 and Brasserie Joris around the caracteristic water pump.
