We would like to take you on a journey through the mill's rich past. A veil of mystery surrounds the origin of parts of the mill. There are strong indications that the mill was rebuilt using parts from the paper mill De IJver from Wormerveer (built in 1781), which was demolished in 1872. Because the octagonal superstructure was placed on a square masonry substructure, a type of mill rarely seen in our country was created. In the fifties and sixties of the 20th century, the mill was partially dismantled, before being officially reopened by HRH Prince Claus in 1995.
Curious about the whole story? Volunteer miller Peter Tijssen can be found a lot at his beloved mill and loves to talk about it. With great regularity, he turns the sails to grind flour or fodder.
After visiting the mill, you will know how this corn mill works and what the miller does, but also what has changed over the years. This Veen mill lives up to its name and is a special piece of heritage where everyone is welcome. Come and experience 'The Friendship'.
