Just outside the IJsselpoort stands the 'fire house' with stepped gable and red tile saddle roof, built in 1622. The building has had several functions. In 1769, it was described as a 'gatekeeper's house'. Built as a guard or toll house, it later served as a storage place for a 'Jan van der Heyden' fire hose. For that reason, this monument is known as a fire engine house.
