Het Wapen van Harmelen has a rich history and was the beating heart of the Harmelen community for many years. Originally, the building was an inn that also served as a courthouse. Harmelen's sheriff and aldermen held their sessions here. After the municipality of Harmelen got its own town hall in 1868, the administration continued to meet in Het Wapen van Harmelen for meetings. Auctions also took place there and various polder boards met here for consultations.
In popular speech, Het Wapen van Harmelen is sometimes still called "Stelling". This name originated in 1940, when the Stelling family took over the premises. The fourth generation of the Stelling family is now at the helm of the family business. Robert and Monique Stelling are proud to continue the family hotel and look forward to a special milestone: in 2029, Het Wapen van Harmelen will celebrate no less than its 125th anniversary as a family business.
