Fort Blauwkapel
Fort Blauwkapel is one of the largest forts of the Waterlinie and was built around an existing village. The fort gets its name from the chapel of this village. The 19th-century fort (1818-1821) has a quadrangular ground shape with an extension (bastion) in each corner. Around 1850, the bombproof guardhouse was built on the reduit (last refuge if the rest of the fort had already fallen). Later, two bombproof barracks were added, one of which still remains.

The western part of Fort Blauwkapel is open to the public as a recreational area. You can go there for a walk on the fort's ramparts, relax on the jetty overlooking the fort canal or have a sandwich. The barracks can be rented for parties up to 150 people. In the north-western part of the fort you will find walking paths, a picnic area and a jetty along the water.
