City Plaza shopping centre

Besides many shops, it is also home to Theatre de Kom and the Nieuwegein Library.

Many Nieuwegein residents considered the heart to be bleak and unsociable. Therefore, the complete heart was rebuilt. Construction was fully completed in 2015. The new city centre now consists of around 155 shops, making City plaza the largest shopping centre in Nieuwegein and the second largest shopping centre in the province of Utrecht. City plaza is also among the largest (partly covered) shopping centres in the Netherlands. Only Shopping centre Zuidplein (Rotterdam - the largest in the Netherlands), shopping centre Hoog Catharijne (Utrecht) and Shopping centre Kronenburg (Arnhem) are larger. Nieuwegein city hall is located at the very east end of City Plaza

Many offices are located around City Plaza. Above City Plaza are flats and especially to the west of this are low-rise buildings. Some of these were demolished as part of the Inner City Project. Later, new housing has come up on the new part of city PLaza.

Adjacent to the city centre, southeast of it in the Doorslag district, is the St Antonius Hospital. To the east of City Plaza, against the Doorslag (canal) is Nieuwegein's city hall.

Parking

There is a wide range of parking facilities under shopping centre Cityplaza. The car park under Cityplaza is called P1. These are connected underground and can be reached via various entrances. The Stadshuisgarage is near the city hall and Theatergarage is near Theatre DEKOM.
