Fort Spion is part of the New Dutch Waterline. This defence line was built between 1815 and 1885 and - with the necessary modifications - functioned as one of the main defence lines of our country until 1940.
Nowadays, Fort Spion is, among other things, set up as a small simple campsite. The perfect base for a few days on and along the water, between river Vecht and the Loosdrecht lakes.
Facilities
No canteen, bingo, swimming pool or playgrounds but a nice small-scale campsite on a historic site. Showers and toilets are available in the fort. There is parking space for about 5 cars, but unfortunately no room for trailer tents, campers and caravans.

Spending the night in the fortress
You can spend the night in the bombproof guardhouse with up to 4 people. The bombproof guardhouse is the room where officers used to stay with a powder store and a projectile magazine. It is equipped with a kitchen, 2 beds and a double sofa bed, shower and toilet, wood and gas stove.
