Luxury dining in a medieval dining room in the heart of Utrecht? It is possible at Restaurant Karel V. This used to be where the monastic friars dined, now it is the place to be for a stylish business dinner or a romantic evening of culinary enjoyment. The complex, which also houses a 5-star hotel, dates back to the 14th century and has several beautiful courtyard gardens. It is named after Emperor Charles V, as he stayed here with his sister Mary of Hungary in 1546.

There is also a Bistro in the old monastery kitchen, where you can enjoy casual lunch or dinner. Here, classic dishes are given a creative twist. And if the weather is warm, don't forget to book a table in the garden. On a balmy summer evening, you can dine in the apple and pear orchard and imagine yourself in France!
