'The Miracle of Amersfoort'
At over 98 metres tall, the Onze Lieve Vrouwetoren is one of the tallest late-medieval towers. The pride of Amersfoort is the city's most famous eye-catcher and is also known as Lange Jan. 'The miracle of Amersfoort' prompted the construction of the tower. Construction began after 1450 and the tower was completed around 1500. The tower is said to symbolise the Mother of God and the additional expanded corner tower the Christ Child. The tower is not only highly visible in the city, but also makes itself heard with its 100 bells, including seven swinging bells. Moreover, the tower's location forms the cadastral centre of the Netherlands, as is clearly visible in the tower's floor.

Peregrine falcon
Since 2013, a pair of peregrine falcons has chosen Onze Lieve Vrouwetoren as its home base. Peregrine falcons are quite rare in the Netherlands and are not often found in a city centre. The peregrine falcons can regularly be seen on the tower, especially when one sits atop the cross (just below the rooster). Since 2014, young have been born every year; you can follow the peregrine falcons via the webcam.
