Storytelling – Living Museum
Woerden’s history comes to life at the City Museum. During the Storytelling Living Museum, storytellers from the Stichts-Hollandse Historische Vereniging (SHHV) take you back to the time of the siege of Woerden. This is no ordinary history lesson, but a series of personal stories told by historical figures. The Living Museum is a recurring feature of the museum’s programme.
This time, the focus is on three stories from the Eighty Years’ War. They are set against the backdrop of the siege of Woerden in 1575 and 1576. Listen to Aagje, who witnessed the horrors of the Oudewater massacre. Discover also the story of a Spanish soldier besieging Woerden. And meet Anna, who witnessed the life-saving ‘Miracle of Woerden’ from within the city walls.

The storytellers bring these characters to life and let you see events through their eyes. In this way, you not only discover what happened, but also gain an insight into the lives of ordinary people during these turbulent times. This makes a visit worthwhile for anyone who wants to learn more about Woerden’s history and heritage.
The Storytelling Living Museum will take place on Saturday 26 September at the Woerden City Museum. The storytellers will perform at 11.30 am and 1.30 pm. Admission is free with a valid museum ticket. Come to the Woerden City Museum and experience Woerden’s history up close!
